tie promoted and gained Parliamentary approval for a tram network in Edinburgh in March 2006. A detailed Draft Final Business Case has now been approved by the City of Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Executive.
Trams offer a whole new transport choice to the people of Edinburgh; one that is proven to appeal to car users where other public transport has failed. Trams are reliable, fast and can carry many passengers; they are also electrically powered producing almost no on-street pollution, which helps to reduce the environmental impact of vehicle emissions.
Edinburgh’s tram network will be delivered in phases with phase 1a running from Edinburgh Airport to Leith, and phase 1b serving the Granton area of the city, connecting it through Craigleith and Roseburn to the City Centre. Phase two will link Granton to Leith, completing the loop.
tie has in place an experienced team to deliver the tram project, with specialists in a number of areas including:
- Project promotion, development and delivery
- Project Management
- Construction and operation procurement
- Integration and operation expertise
- Business case development and financial risk management
- Stakeholder Management and Communications
In a UK first, work to move and protect underground pipes and cables along the route will be centrally co-ordinated, and began at a trial site in April.
